ANTI DRUG CAMPAIGN AND 'Nerkoottam' , 'Shradha' CLUB INAUGURATION

 

The Kerala government marked the anti-narcotic campaign month (October 1–November 1), and on October 26, 2022, GCTE Thycaud held an event at 11 am in the UGC hall to raise awareness of this. The presentation was hosted by Sridevi, a research researcher, and it began with a prayer performed by Karthika Suresh, a second-year B.Ed student. Everyone was welcomed to the event by Dr. V. K. Santhosh Kumar, who also stressed the need and necessity of such a campaign given the current situation. Thycaud ward councillor Sri. Madava Das then gave the president's address. Sri. P. K. Jayaraj, Excise Division Officer, Fort, Trivandrum, officially launched the initiative.

In the inauguration that followed, he spoke about his worries and trepidations. He said that in the present environment, narcotics had absorbed everyone. He related how a female had told him to legalise drug usage in his own personal experience. He also discussed the police case against a girl named Rafa and how this devout girl fell into a gang of lads' trap and developed a heroin addiction. Additionally, he discussed the practises of five-star hotels and what they conceal as DJ parties. He drew our attention to the negative effects of using MDMA, often known as party drug and date rape drug since it causes memory loss.Hr expressed his concern about drug usage and schoolchildren's enthusiasm for it. Then he called our attention to the legal aspects of drug use. He said that my life, my regulations, and my independence are all myths and provided humorous instances to support his claim. Freedom, according to him, is the accommodation of interest. He criticised the altered family structure and way of life that resulted from the greater restrictions of globalisation, liberalism, and privatisation. He got us to consider the ways in which these medications are employed politically. Finally, he reminded us of the goals and duties of a teacher in shaping a child's character.He emphasised the necessity to bridge the gap created by modern instructors' inability to engage and guide students. He urged the young people to get together and combat this societal scourge. In support of this cause, the hostel established the Sradha Committee and the college launched Nerkootam.

Following this, awards were given out for the interdepartmental anti-drug scriptwriting and anti-drug poster-making contests. The students from the department of social science won first place in the scriptwriting competition. The Sanskrit department came in second, followed by the mathematics department in third, while the commerce department received consolation prizes. Mariya George and Chinju S. Nair from first semester B. In the competition for the best poster, Ed placed first and second, respectively. The anti-drug oath was required of all students.
After that, Sri. Sabu Valerian, PTA Vice President, gave a congratulatory speech in which he reflected on his prior experiences at GCTE. Gayathri B.L., the chairwoman of the college union, and Metilda Alphonse, the student coordinator, also expressed congratulations. The programme culminated with a vote of appreciation offered by Dr. Rajasree K, the convenor of the GCTE Thycaud's anti-narcotic club, and it was brought to a close with the national song.
