I went to Manakkad school today full of optimism. Yes, the first day of the school induction programme was today. It was quite an exciting experience. Karthika Thirunnal Government Vocational and Higher Secondary School for Girls was the school assigned to us. The school is located in the town of Manakkad. There were 13 of us, and our leader was Lekshmi. We arrived at school at 9 a.m. Today was the first day of school after the holiday break. The school's headmaster, Jose PJ, greeted us all and got to know us... he arranged for us to sit and then assigned each of us a teacher guide. My guide was Teacher Sasikala. We noticed that Jose sir was rushing around.When sir announced that those who need breakfast should come to the canteen, I came to know that there is breakfast distribution in this school. When I inquired, I came to know that the distribution is from 8:45 to 9-15 and that the food is provided by Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. At exactly 9:30 am the prayer will be sung and the oath will be taken. Assembly is usually held in this school every Wednesday, but today assembly was not held,may be because it was the first day of opening after school holidays. After we recorded our attendance, I noticed a board was placed there, and today's theme was...'The only thing I know about talent is hard work.'-Alexander Hamilton.
Later we went for a walk around the school premises to know more about the school. All teachers go to class with answer sheets. In the middle of the school is a beautiful ground where there are two posts suitable for games like hockey, handball and football,there is also a big tree.School buses are also parked there. There is an auditorium on the side of the ground called Joy Mary Samuel Memorial Auditorium. We noticed that a class was going on there. I went to the gents staff room... there I met noshad sir who is dealing with the subject of Arabic. His house is Attingal.. I asked him some information about the school.
We then visited the I.E.D SS Resource Centre. There they provide special attention for differently abled students. Two teachers and a care taker are working there. A herbal garden is maintained by the school and there is a pond in the middle of it. After that we went to the model library and asked about its mechanism.
I met my guide Sasikala teacher. The teacher joins this school in this academic year,Maths is the subject handled by the teacher. After asking a few things about the school, the teacher gave her number. The bell rang for lunch,an announcement was also heard that those in need should eat lunch.This was also announced by the headmaster himself.The b.Ed students of Mar Theophilus Training College came here for teaching practice,They served lunch to the students.
After lunch we visited the science lab and computer lab. That's when I noticed a teacher taking a class from under the tree. It was the third grade Malayalam class. It sounded very interesting.
A PTA meeting was going on at this time. We tried to observe the whole environment of the school. We got to see the canteen, the washroom and also a rainwater tank.
School ends at 3:30pm.Some students run home. Some are telling each other about the school,they are comparing the answer sheets.I remember my school days.
Thanking God for giving me a new day and some good experiences, I look forward to tomorrow with the hope that I will get a lot of experiences.
