UNiTE! Activism to end Violence against Women and Girls!

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women was established by the United Nations General Assembly on November 25. The purpose of the day is to emphasise how often the scope and actual nature of the problem are disguised while also raising awareness of the fact that women are frequently the victims of rape, domestic abuse, and other types of violence. The Women Cell of GCTE Thycaud made the decision to observe the day, provide insight into the problem, and start a conversation among the student teachers about it
.As part of the event, all of the student teachers and teachers received orange ribbons and badges with various sayings, slogans, and phrases printed on them. Feminism is the radical idea that women are equal, "enough is enough," "and here you are living despite it all," and other like phrases. The colour orange is used to symbolise a future free from violence against women and girls on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
The day's concept, the #OrangetheWorld campaign's specifics, and the importance of marking such a day were all given by Bhagya Murali. Sibana S read aloud a poem she had written on a circumstance that all of us had experienced in our homes: how the boy child always has the upper hand in arguments over the remote. Revathy B.R. provided statistics on violence against women, which supported how serious the problem is.

Bushra shared her ideas on rape culture, which she believed needed to be discussed. Rape Culture is a setting where rape is common and where sexual assault on women is accepted and justified in the media and popular culture. Through the use of sexist rhetoric, objectification of women's bodies, and glamorization of sexual violence, rape culture is sustained, resulting in a society that disregards the rights and safety of women. She demonstrated the pervasiveness of this patriarchal structure in our society by using examples from pop culture and everyday life.
The event concluded on a positive note with the message that we must fight against violence against women and seek to uphold their rights. Keerthana Anil, Abhirami S, Mary Antony, and Sheena Elizabeth shared their thoughts and experiences in relation to the themes presented. A declaration of the same was made under oath.
