SUPW WORKSHOP

The SUPW Workshop was a requirement of the first semester of B.Ed coursework. On February 24th and 25th, our college held two sessions on how to make lotion, detergent powder, dishwashing powder, and soap.

                Day 1 ::  24th January 2023

At 2:15 pm, the first day's session got under way. Sukumaran Sir and Ummar Sir, the resource persons, were welcomed by Praveen, the chairman of the college union. The session was inaugurated by the principal, Dr. V. K. Santhosh Kumar, who also shared his thoughts on the curriculum.

Sukumaran Sir and Ummar Sir provided an overview of Gandian philosophy and ideology. Mahatma Gandhi proposed teaching craft knowledge and skills to pupils beginning in the eighth standard and continuing until the twelfth standard. It is for the students' intellectual growth as well as the production of work. The Kothari Commission (1964–1966) later advanced this notion by recommending the inclusion of "job experience" in the educational process. Following the suggestions of the "Ishwarbhai Patel Committee," which first used the term "Socially Useful Productive Work" (SUPW) in July 1977, the subject was first included to the curricula for schools by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, in 1978.

We received instructions on how to create lotion, detergent powder, and dishwashing powder in the first class. We became familiar with the chemicals utilised thanks to the instructors. They also offered us suggestions on how to promote these goods. The first session was quite helpful overall.

                 Day 2 ::  25th January 2023

On January 25, 2023, at 1:30 in General Hall 2, GCTE, Day 2 of the SUPW Workshop got underway. We had an interactive session with Ummar Sir. He discussed Gandhian principles, the necessity of producing socially beneficial goods, and other topics. Then, Sukumar Sir and Ummar Sir started making soap. They explained every single step and made sure we understood it. They required active participation from every student in the soap-making process. Everyone was happy, ecstatic, and completely engaged the entire time.

Keerthana Anil and Krishna Kumar thought back on the events of those two days. Krishna Kumar was more motivated and made the decision to teach other children and their parents how to make soap and lotion after discovering that this was, at least for some families, a source of money. The programme coordinator Jayakrishna teacher thanked the resource people and provided us with information on the community service project and the SUPW report that we must submit. At 4:15 pm, Amal Muhammed gave the vote of thanks to conclude the meeting.
